Air Pressure (2016)

Air Pressure is a series of kinetic installations from Studio F Minus.

“Air Pressure is a kinetic sculptural installation series of 200 animated, inflatable sculptures, that has since been exhibited across North America. Each bird is made of a cotton fabric and inflates via a small fan attached to the top of the sculpture. These fans power on and off on timer switches, and the wings inflate and deflate accordingly, mimicking the motion of a bird in flight. Each sculpture flaps its wings independently, creating a naturalistic animation. As per the title of the artwork, the effect is produced entirely through changes in air pressure.”

Working as an artist assistant, I focused on the start to finish of this project; from modeling in Rhino 3D, to building the metal encasing for the fans, to stripping and hanging the cloth birds.
